How can the church be a healing force in the world? As Christians, we need to understand who the church should be in this hurting world: people who are redeemed, filled with the Holy Spirit, and equipped to serve to meet needs everywhere in Jesus' name. And as laypeople step onto roles of service and admit their own brokenness, they will find that they can love, accept, and forgive those who are hurting around them and put out the "welcome mat" in their community. "Love Acceptance and Forgiveness" by Jerry Cook is available from Amazon and other booksellers.

June 8
In the spirit of the June 6 National Hunger Awareness Day, the Outreach Committee will holding a community-wide food drive on Saturday, June 8, to help us stock the Blessing Box. There will be a staffed donation table in the parking lot for people to drive through and drop off their food donations. We’ll be making announcements to the community through various communication channels such as our Facebook page, front sign, neighborhood flyer distribution on doors, and posting flyers in shops. The neighborhood flyers will let our neighbors know of about our congregation, the availability of the Blessing Box, its “take what you need, leave what you can” philosophy, and the June 8 food drive to help support our food insecure neighbors.
While this is a targeted event to involve our community neighbors that our congregational members can also participate in, we encourage the congregation to support the Blessing Box throughout the year. As Cindy Leverenz so elegantly stated during Sunday’s announcements, look for those buy 1 get 1 free sales and donate the free item. Also look for the 10 for $10 sales; keep 9 items and donate the 10th item – that’s your 10% tithe. Thank you for your generosity!
Save the Date — July 27, 2024!
This year’s Back to School Rally will be held on Saturday, July 27 from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. With over 400 visitors expected, we will need lots of volunteers to help us host our biggest outreach event of the year.
Planning has already started with our partner schools and we’re sending out requests to organizations seeking their sponsorship. Have a suggestion for a sponsor or an organization to invite to have an informational table? Please contact Cheryl Benjamin, GLC Outreach Chair, at cabenjamin@aol.com with your suggestions or to volunteer with the event planning. Keep an eye out for opportunities to participate in the event!
Fridays at 10:00 a.m. at the church
The Men’s Christian Living Group at Gethsemane meets weekly to reflect on God’s call to live our faith daily. The meetings provide an opportunity to share our sights and lows from the previous week and how we’ve responded to both blessings and challenges. It is an opportunity to pray together. If you’re interested in this group, you are welcome to join us. We meet at 10 a.m. on Friday at the church. If you have questions, contact Dave Leverenz at cdleverenz@gmail.com.
Lutheran Disaster Response shares God's hope, healing and renewal with people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and the headlines change, we stay to provide ongoing assistance to those in need. Learn more.
